A Small Church in France

"Oh, thank goodness. I thought you were just gaining weight, I didn't want to say anything." Serenity completely missed Rachel's mumbling.

"Damn! Looking like the Enterprise down there yet?" Olivia took another swig from her glass. Boy, this was great.

"Are you drunk?" Serenity asked, frowning at Olivia.

"You kidding? I'm just getting started." She guffawed. "I reckon I'll be locked up for another year or so! Ha!"

Serenity didn't want to deal with Olivia drunk, so she went over to where Elroy was sitting. "Hi, honey. Do you want to dance?"

Elroy sighed, looking at her. "I guess we've got to..." He hated dancing.

"We don't have to. Don't worry." She sat down next to him.

"Can if you want to." Elroy couldn't recognize the song that was playing at that moment. "We're married."

"I know. I'm so happy.. I really didn't expect this to happen to me ever, especially not you. But it's so wonderful and now I'm married to the guy I love and we can have kids.." Serenity was starting to tear up.

Rachel's jaw actually dropped in surprise, and she reached over and smacked Olivia out of shock. "I am NOT pregnant!" she yelled. Her face was turning bright red in the matter of seconds, sort of like a cartoon character. "Get out of here, you drunk!"

"I'm not drunk! YET!" she said merrily, ignoring the stinging pain in her cheek. "It was only a joke, jeez."

"Yeah right. I know how you are." Rachel grumbled still looking significantly mad.

"Well, knowing you, it could've been..." She set her empty glass on some random table nearby. "Lighten up! You're so pretty when you smile, Rach."

Rachel gave Olivia a small smile in vain. "Thank you. So how are you and Bore doing? Are you still living with him? And are you a virgin?"

"Aren't you getting a bit personal?"

"So you aren't?! OH, I knew you'd get laid SOMEDAY! Yes yes, I always knew you'd be the last one too, but that glorious day has arrived!" And she threw her arm around Olivia, and planted a wet kiss on her cheek.

Yes, Rachel was a bit tipsy herself.

"... What!? I-I didn't mean WE-- No!" Olivia pushed Rachel away, her face turning beet-red. "You muppet! Haven't had that since Amsterdam! And for the record, I wouldn't be last, anyway; Amanda still hasn't."

Rachel shook her head, but she was still grinning like an idiot. "Amanda doesn't count. She might as well go to an abbey, accept a Chastity Vow, and become a nun.

"You're awful, you know that? Right about Manda, though." She tensely laughed. "Poor thing, poor thing."

"I know it!" She laughed, but her eyes looked worried. "What's wrong with her? Did she get rejected again?"

"Vainglory dumped her a year or so back, in case you didn't know that. I hear she's met this fellow at her publisher's, or something."

Rachel sadly shook her head. "Poor girl... I wonder if she'll ever get married."

"I should hope so." Olivia adjusted one of her shoes. Why had she chosen to wear such strappy things in the middle of winter? "Say, Rach?"

"Yes?"

Olivia hesitated, scanning over the sitting area for Serenity and Elroy. "D'you think they're going to work out?"
