Transfiguration

None other than Cara Brown, sitting in the front row as usual, raised her hand.

"... Miss Brown?"

"Will we have homework over break, Professor?" she chirped.

"Miss Brown, I tell you always at the end of class. And before, you didn't. But seeing as impaitence has taken over you, there will be a test on this charm. After the break. How you perfom it will now be a large portion of your grade. Practice over break."

Amanda glared at Cara.

Cara didn't notice the glares, and took out her wand to practice the lesson.

Amanda whispered to Rachel, "Can you believe this?" Amanda tried as she spoke, only getting a chrip from the feather at first.

Serenity kept staring at the feather blankly. It sprouted a beak at one end, and some legs, but no other dove characteristics.

Olivia was staring the feather down. "You," she whispered, "You are gonna turn into a little wing-ed creature. You got that?" She pointed her wand at it. Left, counterclockwise, counterclockwise, flick. Voila, a one-footed dove. "Yessss..."

Amanda tried again, and got a full dove. She stared at it, but in three seconds flat it turned back into a chirping feather.

Serenity kept trying. And trying. And on her fourth try, the beak and legs got a full dove.

Rachel on her first try, managed to have a head formed on the feather. But no boddy.

"Hey!" she said excitedly.

"So what do we do with it? Turn it back? Olivia blinked.

Jake was here. He was trying to balance a pencil on his forehead, but it kept slipping.

Selia came in, considering she was in the same house as Jake, so they had some classes together, and sat down next to him. "Jake, the greatest thing happened- Last night this really cute guy asked me on a date during the next Hogsmeade trip." She was grinning widely.

The pencil fell down his shirt. As he tried to make it come out, he had to untuck his shirt from his pants and then it fell out. But he left his shirt falling out from under his vest. "Really? That's so cool..."

Karin, came in and sat down sadly, not caring that she was tardy. She seemed to look rather worn out...

"Yeah, I know, I'm so excited!" Selia said, then looking over at Karin. "Whoah.. She looks like she needs some sleep. I feel sort of bad for her.." Selia, on an impulse, went over and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?"

Karin looked up at her tiredly. She was so tired and stressed and just feeling so... down, she didn't even care it was Selia who was comforting her.

"Huh... what?" she asked softly.

"You look really tired, have you been getting enough sleep?" Selia said, sitting down next to Karin.

She didn't know what to say. But, she felt like she could trust her.

Karin pulled out her Transfiguration, and Magical Theory textbooks, and said rather simply:

"Antonio."

"Yeah, tell me about it," Selia said, pulling out her books too. "He's really cruel. Is he trying to make you... you know.." Selia said, looking worried. She still, in some weird way, considered Karin a friend.

She looked up sharply. "No. None of that. He's just so... well, like you said. Cruel. And, I can't get rid of him either, or break up with him... he would kill me if I did."

"Oh, God, Karin. That's horrible.. Nobody should ever be afraid of dying. I really don't know what to say.. Maybe you could try to get him to break up with you. So he thinks he's the one ending it, and he leaves you alone."
